One Reverse Mortgage would like to thank our men and women in uniform…past, present and future for serving our country. Thank you to all the veterans.
I would like to encourage everyone to thank a veteran for their service to our country on this important day.
According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Day is observed on November 11 because in World War 1 at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month fighting ceased between Allied nations and Germany. For that reason November 11, 1918 is regarded as the end of the war to end all wars.”
It wasn’t until 1919 that President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day. The original concept of Armistice Day was to celebrate the day with parades and public meetings and a brief suspension of business beginning at 11 a.m.
Armistice Day did not become a legal holiday until 1938. This same year the day became known as Veterans Day.
We continue to observe Veterans Day every year on November 11, regardless of what day of the week it falls on. Veterans Day is a day to celebrate and honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of the country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good of the country.
