It’s not every day that one of our family members receives correspondence from the Queen of England! Our very own face of One Reverse Mortgage, Henry Winkler, received just that, as the Queen announced in a letter that he is awarded with the prestigious Order of the British Empire (OBE) medal, for his work in raising awareness of learning challenges among children in Great Britain.
In 2008, Henry joined First News (the U.K.’s only weekly children’s newspaper), on their annual Reading Tour of schools where he read excerpts from his New York Times best-selling series of books, Hank Zipzer, which follows the everyday adventures of a bright boy with learning challenges.
To combat the statistic that one in five children have learning challenges, Henry helped launch the “My Way” campaign in London to focus on boosting the confidence of children struggling with their studies and raising awareness that children learn in different ways. Since its inception in 2010, the campaign has reached 14 million people and is expected to grow in 2011.
Created by King George V in 1917, the OBE is a special honor awarded to individuals of high achievement in the arts, learning, literature and science. Henry is one of only four bestowed the medal outside of Great Britain in 2011.
Our family at One Reverse Mortgage salutes Henry and is proud of his accomplishments and continued efforts to help people of EVERY AGE succeed!
