If you are like many people who have decided to make their New Year’s resolution to travel more this year, you want to make sure you plan carefully for your trip. For a successful vacation, it’s all about the planning. You want to make sure you pack the right things, know the best places to check out while on vacation and knowing what to do in case of an emergency. Below are some tips to ensure your next vacation is a safe and enjoyable one!
Find the nearest medical facilities before you leave
There is nothing wrong with being prepared for any possible circumstances. Just because you are vacation, doesn’t mean some kind of medical emergency won’t happen. Locate the nearest medical facilities to where you are staying and if it takes your insurance coverage. It will be a good piece of mind to have on your trip knowing where you should go in case a medical emergency does happen.
Travel insurance
If you going out of the country, during hurricane season or just to put your mind at ease, travel insurance is a smart idea. It can project you and the money you have spent on your vacation. There are several different kinds of travel insurance available to vacationers. Do your research before buying any kind of insurance. Make sure you are clear on what insurance you are buying and what it will cover for your vacation.
Passport
If your vacation is taking you out of the country, be sure to check and see if your passport is current. If you need to have a passport for an upcoming trip, it can take up to six weeks to process a passport application. For more information on passports check out travel.state.gov/passport/.
Research your destination
Research your destination for food, fun and shopping before going on vacation. Be sure to read reviews of restaurants on different review sites. Conducting a little research before your trip will help you know the best places to check out, and the ones to avoid.
Pack wisely
I always over pack but I never forget anything because I always make a list of things I need on the trip. Before packing make a detailed list of the things you would need to get ready. Do your best not to over pack, but make sure to bring extra underwear and socks, because you just never know what could happen on vacation.
Medications
Keep your medication in its original containers while traveling. Consult your doctor on when to take your medication if you are traveling to a different time zone. When traveling out of the country check before your try to ensure you vaccinated for everything you need to be vaccinated for.
Check the forecast
I recently took a trip to Florida for a long weekend. I did not check the forecast and just assumed that the Florida weather would be nice enough for tank tops and shorts. I packed very little warm clothes and it was a big mistake. If I would have taken the time to look at the forecast I would have packed warmer clothes because the highs in Florida in January are only in the 70s. So don’t make the same mistake I did. Check the forecast daily a week before your trip to know exactly what you should be packing.
Tag your bag
I have never had to check luggage but watching people try and claim their baggage at the airport does not look fun. Suitcases pretty much look the same. Be sure to tag your bag with something that will make it stand out from the sea of luggage. The same goes for your carry-on bag. You don’t want a stranger to mistake your bag for their bag.
A vacation is supposed to be a relaxing getaway from everyday life. By following these tips you can help avoid issues while on vacation.
