Every year, it’s the same: The weather warms up, and people flock in masses to vacation destinations the world over. More and more retirees are taking advantage of this prime time to benefit from special deals- and our clients are no exception. After hearing how energized our closed clients were by their travels, I decided to share some of my research and favorite tips for planning your own summer getaway- I had no idea how many resources there are available to retirees!
Federal Campgrounds/National Parks- The government offers a Senior Pass for $10, to gain entrance into any participating federal campgrounds and national parks. The pass is available to U.S. Citizens and permanent residents who are 62 and older, and is valid for life! A pass can be purchased at any participating Federal Recreation site or office.

Amtrak Trains- Amtrak travelers 62 years of age and over are eligible to receive a 15% discount on the lowest available rail fare on most Amtrak trains. On cross-border services operated jointly by Amtrak and VIA Rail Canada, a 10% Senior discount is applicable to travelers aged 60 and over.
Amtrak also offers a Veteran’s Advantage Member Card, providing passengers with a 15% discount on the lowest available rail fare on most Amtrak trains to any destination. VA Card members who also enroll in Amtrak Guest Rewards are eligible for 1,000 bonus enrollment points, redeemable for a free trip on some of Amtrak’s most scenic and special routes.
